Are there more powerful antennas for my SMS Gateway?

If cellular reception at the installation site is insufficient, an external outdoor antenna can be used.

The appropriate antenna depends on your SMS Gateway model.

Rack RX2 2nd Gen 5G

5G 4×4 MIMO Omnidirectional Antenna

For the RX2 2nd Gen 5G, a high-performance 4×4 MIMO outdoor antenna is available. It is particularly suitable for installations in data centers, equipment rooms, or other locations with limited cellular reception.

The antenna can be installed outdoors or at another location with better cellular reception and is connected to the RX2 2nd Gen 5G using four antenna cables.

Antenna type 4×4 MIMO omnidirectional antenna
Cellular networks LTE / 5G
Frequency range 700–4800 MHz
Antenna gain typically 4 × 8 dBi
Connectors 4 × N female
Installation Wall or mast mounting

Antenna cables

The longer the antenna cable, the greater the signal loss. Keep the cable run between the SMS Gateway and the antenna as short as possible. Different low-loss cable types are used depending on the required cable length.

:

Cable length Cable type
Up to 5 m FTS-H 200
6–19 m FTS-H 300
20 m or longer FTS-H 400

Important: Four antenna cables are required for 4×4 MIMO operation.

Other SMS Gateways

3-Band Omnidirectional Antenna

A 3-band omnidirectional outdoor antenna is available for other SMS Gateway models.

It is particularly suitable for installations where cellular reception at the location of the SMS Gateway is insufficient, for example in data centers or equipment rooms.

Antenna type 3-band omnidirectional antenna
Frequency range 860–960 / 1710–2190 MHz
Antenna gain 4.6–6.3 dBi
Connector N female
Installation Wall or mast mounting

Antenna cables

The antenna is supplied with a preconfigured antenna cable in the required length. Keep the cable run as short as possible, as signal loss increases with cable length and frequency.

With an Ecoflex 15 cable, the attenuation at 900 MHz is approximately 9 dB per 100 m.

A 20 m cable therefore results in an attenuation of approximately 1.8 dB.

We recommend limiting the cable length to 20 m whenever possible.

If a significantly longer cable run is required, consider installing the antenna or the SMS Gateway at a more suitable location.
